Well I've spent the hottest early May bank holiday on record in the over-air-conditioned basement of a hotel in Chicago, where my employer has been running a telecoms conference, and I've been interviewing executives and writing news stories. Boo hiss
Nice post DG.

It was a fine day yesterday down in Sussex too, and we spent it walking the dog before a family barbeque.
I wondered if you might get to Ashridge. The bluebells were stunning on Sunday, the best I can remember. I don't recall smelling the scent of bluebells before. Yet the woods seemed relatively empty once you got away from the main paths. I recommend a cream tea at the cafe - the scones are enormous.
Yes, I concur, a very nice post. We went to Ham House, and then took a walk along the Thames. The the sun, warmth and clear blue skies certainly bring out the best in people - everyone was having a good time.
200 people off a train at Tring on a Bank Holiday. Must have been quite a sight. Glad you enjoyed the sunshine but way too hot for me - I'm waiting for things to cool down so I can stop hiding inside.
Had an entire weekend of fun and festivities as we were hosting an overseas visitor.
All their preconceptions of non-stop rain and miserable-looking natives were completely swept away as they saw Britain at it's best!
Goodness, I was there yesterday as well. Probably later in the day than you considering everything else you did!
Dockey Wood is absolutely spectacular. If you can get there while the bluebells are out, then go.
A beautiful and evocative post. Makes me wish I was there. And long for the days when I could have seen all those beauty spots in one visit.

The Chilterns is (are?) a treasure.
And the ethnic balance of the paricipants and 'consumers' was?

Lovely post. Bluebells are the stand out unique treasure of England. We went to Emmett's Garden to see them. Almost impossibly beautiful, as though someone had painted the forest floor just the right colour to set off the trees.
