My initial thought for the reveal date would be 1st September because it's a new month and a Sunday, but they might wait until the new December timetables.
How extravagant and for what reason. The new names are confusing and fundamentally ridiculous, departing from tradition.

The Vinyl rip-off is a clever idea and as you say will save time on launch day.
London Overground staff have been briefed that the mayor is launching the new line names on the 26th September fwiw.
I thought the new names had already been launched? No of course not, that was just a reveal, the mayor just cant let the opportunity go for another publicity event. I understand the reasons for publicity when you are competing with other providers, but TfL is a monopoly, so what’s the point?

As for the cost and the FOI request, why are you being snarky about the cost? TfL keep saying they have no money so of course people are going to ask. The cost seems pretty reasonable to me, so TfL would have got better publicity if they had just announced the cost rather than waste everyone’s time e waiting for the FOI request
Are there any stations operated by the Overground where tube trains stop? If so...

Jimbo - obviously you reveal the names before you do the renaming. Obviously.
I fully understand the need for separate line names, but I'm going to take a while to remember which is which. I've had a lifetime to learn all the existing lines, with new names introduced one at a time. As it's my closest I've already got the hang of the Lioness (which sadly I think will date fairly quickly) but the rest may take several years.

This launch date business is a bit of a nonsense and smacks of the Mayor desperate for publicity. For all his many faults, that seemed to come naturally for Boris in a way it doesn't for Sadiq, but he obviously craves it.
I don’t like the double-line diagram. If trains are going the same way on both lines there should be one diagram with two colours, making it immediately obvious to those unfamiliar with that part of the network. Sadly I can see someone waiting 15 mins who doesn’t need to.
Why don't they just do it now? It's a rail system, not a movie premiere.
When the new names were announced I remember thinking the Lioness was my least favorite. But now it's the only one I can remember and know what its replacing. Maybe not so bad then.
Nick - That was me at Harrow & Wealdstone wanting to go to Kensal Green a few months ago!

I thought the change had happened and was then confused why everything then stayed the same!

I find the Overground confusing at the best of times as until recently I rarely needed to use it, so the names mean even less to me.
I assume they're waiting until September (or whenever the date is) so that they can gradually install the new signs everywhere, and then unveil all the new signage everywhere all at once. If new signs were slowly and randomly added around the network it would be very confusing.

And obviously you have to tell people that you are renaming the lines before you rename the lines, otherwise there'd be complaints that TfL introduced brand new names overnight with no notice beforehand.

On the whole, I think the renaming process has been done really well so far.
If you’re a regular user, nothing really changes. If you kind of know the tube/Overground map, you’ll instinctively go to the right place. But if you live near an Overground station have friends to visit who don’t know the area you’ll be able to give them clearer instructions as to which lines to take.

Don’t forget there are still some people who refer to non-Overground rail services in London as [catch the] overground. The line names will at least differentiate things.

However it’s odd seeing parallel lines as interchanges on line diagrams when the Elizabeth line and DLR interchanges are rectangles in block colours despite them also being shown as parallel lines on the tube map.
There are a lot of people who wouldn’t have done it like that :)
At least there won’t be a lengthy delay (hopefully) in the unveiling of the new signs. There are some signs on crossrail that were damaged when the old TfL Rail stickers were removed.
Harold Wood station has one such damaged sign at the top of one of the line diagram on the over bridge right next to one that has a sticker over the damaged part. I’m sure there will be others.
Andrew S. Boris was a buffoon and so was a publicity public spectacle in himself.
Will they also be changing all those station and on-board announcements that currently say "London Overground"?
I gather that the new Tube map will be released on 23rd September.
