Prices may look reasonable but they're vastly inflated compared to the Dream Bean kiosk at Plaistow station, two stops up the line.

There they charge 20p less for a tea, 30p less for a mocha, 50p less for a cappuccino, latte or flat white and 50p less for a hot chocolate, which is an astonishing price differential.

Espresso £1.50/£1.80
Americano £1.50/£1.80
Cappuccino/Latte £1.70/£2.00
Mocha £1.90/£2.20
Flat White £2.00
Tea £1.20/£1.40
Hot Chocolate £1.70/£2.00

I can only assume the company looked at Bromley-by-Bow and thought "yeah, these rich incomers will pay a premium", whereas Plaistow remains ungentrified enough to require rock bottom prices.

Or is it low prices to establish the habits of their customers, which will slowly increase while they're not noticing? The contactless revolution has certainly reduced my price awareness.
No, the much lower prices are at the old cafe, not the new one.
In the new world of unstaffed stations the baristas also function as general help and security for the station
Ask nicely (and early enough) and most places will at least give the teabag a squeeze before cooling it down irretrievably with the milk. I sense that a tee shirt I was given recently would chime with you; it proclaims that TEA TASTES BETTER AT HOME. Haven't dared wear it out yet.
Less than £3 for a flat white is pretty rare in North London!
perhaps TfL charge them more rent in a zone 2/3 station so they have to have higher prices to cover their costs?

Leytonstone manages to sustain two newsagents (one at the bus station and one in the ticket hall) and a fancy coffee kiosk.
