OK, I now see the point of moving to the East Village (aka the Athletes Village).

The Red Arrows were just outside my window yesterday.

It was like seeing them at an "Airshow" again when I was five.

But ... just outside my window.

It's certainly odd that you are watching stuff happening outside your window that is also on BBC One HD!
Gifted? Don't you mean given? Red arrows pilots are gifted (as are mediums and child prodigies). IMNSHO you were given a flypast!
We sat on our roof terrace and watched them whoosh by, it was very impressive and at 300mph more than a little thrilling.
I came across your blog during the middle of the Olympic Games in 2012 and since then I have been an regular reader of your blog , well done DG !
Fantastic pictures of the fly past!
I remember as a kid we used to get the odd WW2 flying over Burnt Oak on Trooping of the Colour Day etc. Always thrilling, no matter how far away they are.
Now I live near RAF Northolt, and see nothing!!
'Gifted' for 'given' is a historic Scottish usage, which now seems to be becoming more widespread. It is not precisely equivalent to 'given', because it implies that the thing gifted is actually a gift, whereas 'given' can just mean 'handed over' (as in 'If I give you a five-pound note can you give me change in coins?).
The Apache and Merlin came right over Fairfield Road. I'm no expert but identified them correctly!
Actually scheduled for 1903 and bang on time.
I live in Charlton and heard the Arrows just past seven. And there was me thinking it was a ropey take off from LCY!
Thanks for bringing back happy memories of two years ago. I'd actually been going north from the Blackwall Tunnel towards Stratford the evening of the opening ceremony and after seeing quite a few policemen by the roadside it was obvious they were there to keep the 'Zil Lanes' clear: being a curious sort I pulled over to see what they'd be doing with people who were in them by mistake.
But then, as I was there, a huge cavalcade of cars came by: it was President Obama and his entourage!
And then another cavalcade (with noticeably less security) came past, and it was the Royal family!!!
And then - while I was still standing there going 'well stone me!' - my attention was drawn upwards... and I looked up to see the Red Arrows leaving their jet trails over the Olympic Park, pretty much as you saw them.
I think it was at that exact moment I decided I'd try to take a more positive view towards the Games, and, in no time at all, it was happening without effort :)
Pedantically and belatedly - not Charles' and Camilla's son.

I had read Ian's post in advance, then entirely forgot about it until the Red Arrows passed right down my street. Would have made a nice photo, but I had to make do with seeing the smoke trails and then switching to BBC One to see the rest.
