Thanks for this and the previous post on Hackney Brook, D Geezer. I've lived in the area for over 10 years and I'd never heard of the Hackney Brook. (I'd never learned of the existence of Gillespie Park either, I'll have to go and have a look at that. Interesting to see from your google map that the 2 ponds at the northside of Clissold Park are (probably? definitely?) brook-fed.

Fascinating. I'd love to know where and when Mr E. Bolus got his information. There's no sign of any stream on Stanford's 1862 map, nor any indication that a stream was ever there. |
