I wonder why they chose to name the bus route after the 346 rather than the 497. I guess it might be because similar numbers following similar routes is sensible. (reads the past detailed analysis) ah I see history is also a good reason
Although the daytime frequency of the 346 was reduced to every 20 minutes, the evening frequency was increased to every 20 minutes as was the new Sunday service - so 497 passengers got a better frequency at all times. Replacing a Sunday frequency which was nothing/nothing/hourly with a bus every 20 minutes all day was quite a strong call by TfL.

37540/1 were the two buses acquired for the 497.

327/379/399 - in my opinion, if the loop is large and only done in one direction, it be measured from the start of the loop to the terminus. It makes sense if it was like the old 272 where the loop was done both ways.

"One's an elderly man who addresses the driver with a smiley hello and a look that says "you're the first person I've spoken to today, I wish you had more to say"."

Two gems buried in paragraphs on consecutive days. You wear your wisdom lightly, dg.
If you prefer loops...

It might make more sense if the long gap on the 346 route without a bus stop was designated as 'hail and ride' - as the short section north of Harold Wood station already is.
As always, you notice things (incorrect bus stop information, the illogical lack of a bus stop along a long section) which seem to otherwise be overlooked.

I hadn't realised the Tithe barn was closed for renovation. Looking at the website, removing all the contents must have been a major exercise.
Sounds like the link between Upminster and Harold Wood is Superloop-worthy in terms of speed!

I wonder generally how many residents on new hail and ride sections are aware it exists. Sometimes there's a timetable case somewhere along the street but to an outsider unless they look it up online it's totally opaque.
In what may be good news, no further significant bus changes are scheduled so that's the last of my seven recent bus travelogues.
This should’ve been done in the first place. Seemed like a no brainer when the idea was first revealed in late 2016.
