I didn't get free tickets either this time (not that I'd have been able to use them, but I might have known someone who could ) Given that I got 6 last time...

Strangely I don't see much that is traditionally English in that timetable of music/culture etc. Maybe that's because there isn't anything?

I cannot see that Section 4 sub-section 5 of the DLR conditions of Carriage would be broken. There appears to me nothing prohibiting you carrying a lighted object on the DLR - surprising particulary as some of it is deep underground.

Maybe you are getting confused with London Regional Transport Railways Byelaws condition 3 which does state "No person shall smoke or carry a lighted pipe, cigar, cigarette, match, lighter or other lighted item on any part of the railway on or near which there is a notice indicating that smoking is not allowed."

Newham website "and all five continents." Well I thought there were seven. Assuming the residents of Antarctica are not very interested there is still one that is going to be a bit let down.

But credit to them, they still call it the Dome (but are careful to avoid mentioning that to get to Everest the torch will have to go through Tibet.)

"Back to an open-topped bus, for the full length of this *disinterested* shopping street"

Aagh, disinterested == impartial. Uninteresting == boring. Thus, the disinterested referee oversaw the uninteresting match between Wolves and Coventry.

Thanks for that, Phil.

Did I hear right that there was a free Tibet with every torch?

As Rick pointed to, isn't it going to be called "The Dome" for 2012, because O2 aren't an Olympic sponsor?

Funnily enough I don't see Doctor Who on the list of carriers. Perhaps he'll swing by in the Tardis later on?

Aaaarrrggh! Everyone will be in Wembly this weekend!

Our daughter got us a couple of tickets to the Living Planet concert at Wembley Arena Saturday evening. Which is great except: -

Saturday lunchtime Pompey play the Baggies (& beat 'em) in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium.
Now I know Pompey fans are the best but - they're coming even from Hong Kong, the States & Oz!

Sunday afternoon (4pm on) Cardiff are playing someone else in the other semi-final.

& now you tell us the Olympic Torch will be there, complete with bells, whistles, bands & Security that morning.

It was a really sweet thought from the daughter. We're just glad we booked the hotel room before New Year.

Right, off to pack the placard!

Want to add any links, Flickr photostream pictures, etc. to 16:08,dg?

FREE TIBET!!!

Chicken nuggets. Yum.

I think Lenovo are a Chinese computer firm who produce IBM Thinkpad laptops. They're still sold under the IBM name (or at least were last time I looked) for the obvious reason that, unlike Lenovo, everyone knows IBM. Look 'em up on Wikipedia.

As for the Olympic torch relay, I think I'll just sit back and watch it on TV (unless they reroute it through Hertfordshire, of course ).

Looks like the "torched" bus will pass right under the windows of my flat. I'm thinking of hanging "Free Tibet" banner

We want pictures from your window as it passes then!

If it's any consolation, I don't usually get chicken nuggets on my doorstep but I often have a lake of piss to step over (pub a few metres away). Bah.

Whilst I congratulate the athletes etc who are carrying the torch, I can’t stand the idea that Brown is involved in the event and I detest the oppression of the Tibetan people.
I wish that our government had taken an approach closer to that of Nicolas Sarkozy.

So *that's* why they were washing down the railings opposite my, and DG's, local Costcutter last week...

Interesting day following the torch...

Started @ St Pauls, on to Whitechapel Rd (with mandatory samosa pit-stop), forward to Stratford and on to North Greenwich.

Hope the Old Bill didn't squish any protesters on your doorstep DG.

Despite BBC News 24's salacious reportage I've seen far worse @ home grown demos.

:o)

Well, in the end I did not even see the flame - this part of Stratford is almost empty, so the "procession" passed it very fast...
