I enjoyed visiting the museum more before the year 2008 when they put Charles Darwin's statue at the top of the main entrance staircase, in place of the statue of the founder of the museum Richard Owen. I always thought the founder deserved the "top" spot. I image for tourists Charles Darwin name is better known so good for photos, "this is me by the statue of Charles Darwin" sounds more impressive that the same sentence with Richard Owens name.
I wish my work day finished by 4:30 :-)
I think the ice rink just along the road in Hyde park's WinterWonderland, when it opens, will allow 1 hour of skating for the same price at busy times, or £10.50p off peak. The ice rink in Hyde Park is also claimed to be larger.
Both the museum ice rink and Hyde Parks are in nice settings.
I don't think I have been Ice Skating since the Richmond Ice Rink closed.
@John - yes but Darwin being more famous than Owen is not just a co-incidence. Everywhere they disagreed, D was right and O was wrong. (Of course this is hindsight).

@dg what's wrong with Ipswich? (Apart from it not being London, of course).
Diplodocus carnegii, or Dippy, is the first dinosaur you meet when you enter the Natural History Museum. I did some work for the Museum last century and discovered that they kept a supply of fibreglass copies of the last bone of the dinosaur's tail. It was because of all those 12 year old boys who would sneak the end bone into their blazer pockets. So that bone in the shoebox under the bed isn't 150 million years old after all. I always liked that little story.
@malcolm Ipswich shuts down about five-ish. Colchester is just as bad.

Two towns with plenty to offer but only during daylight hours.
