Diesel trains generate their own electric. But the signals will be down, surely, not to mention power to the points. But each of these may have separate supplies, some of which may be working. I guess there could be an army of rail staff manually setting the points (is this possible on modern points?) and signalling using flags, lanterns or arm-waving. My cellphone is a bit backward, so it doesn’t have an MP3 player. It only has a torch and an FM radio. If only your new device had FM built in, then you could listen to the news reports. Try surfing get bbc or skynews websites. Unfortunately here in NZ it’s only 10am on the 28th (GMT 22:00 27/01/07) so it will be a day or so before we begin to get news filtering (flooding) through. Please keep in touch. Do you have a power pack or wind-up charger? Your tale is making me think of adding one to my earthquake kit! |
