I was hoping you would cover these.

Fascinating.

Looking at the link to the Clapham North shelter trip, I can't help but think that these spaces could have been used more creatively.

For example - a boot camp to deal with the worst of the anti-social yobs around (those who continually and deliberately breach their ASBOs); a place to hold failed asylum seekers so they don't disppear; a prison for convicted terrorists, rapists and murderers.

If it was good enough for everyday London people in times of war, it's good enough for those who choose to flagrantly disobey the rules of society now.

While I am fundamentally opposed to the current "Government"'s punitive approach to all, there are some for whom more therapeutic and reconstructive approaches will never work. These tunnels could have been a cheap way of effectively dealing with them.

Last I'd checked, the Clapham Common one was let by Iron Mountain for tape and document storage.

Fascinating. I know it was a few years ago now, but in the late 90's I lived in 2 different flats between these sites, and thought I got to know that stretch of road pretty well. But I can't say I ever noticed the shelter entrances. These photos don't ring a bell, and I feel somewhat ashamed...

Wow, this is classic DG.

I had absolutely no idea about the use that the Clapham South shelter was put to. But now I do. So, thanks.

amazing. every day's a school day with dg... i thought the deep level shelter at clapham south WAS a disused block of lavatories!

I've learnt a bit!

Link 'well ventilated' in the Clapham South entry is broken.
It's a six-year-old link, David.
