It was brilliant DG. No matter what. Well done. |
I don't like Elms, sorry but I don't! When I was about 9 years old though, i made three appearances on Tommy Boyds afternoon show on LBC though. Does that count? |
Actually, I think it's 2 hours, 7 mins 25 seconds in, but who's counting? Did you do it live then? I am very impressed with your relaxed manner... dg writes: oh yes, very live (and no swearing) |
You should do that more often and Radio London SHOULD be welcoming you with open arms. Ian |
Bravo DG! You're a natural - GeezeRadio here we come! |
Excellent work, sir. |
Great stuff, DG. I also reckon that his programme is London at its best. Just wish I had the time to listen to it. You didn't happen to find out why he doesn't acknowledge eMails, did you? |
..... and a very good broadcasting voice to boot! Well done fella, you've done us proud once again. C xx |
"I wouldn't want to do it after dark," said Diamond Geezer, being quoted out of context. That was excellent, DG. You have a very relaxed, warm voice and sounded nicely confident. I did a live radio interview once, and went blank on the first question. Luckily, there were two of us, and I was rescued by my colleague. I still have nightmares about it (but I've done TV bits since then which have been much better, so it's not all bad). So, I know how nerve-wracking it can be, but you sounded very calm and well-informed too. I thought that the rubicon might have been crossed, but no - well done for preserving the nom de plume, and kudos to Elms for doing that with no fuss or on-air conversation about it either. (I guess that happened off air?) I'm keen on accent spotting, and you'll no doubt be intrigued to hear that I would have said you were someone from East Anglia who's lived in London for a while. There's a shocker. A hint of Australian rising inflection as well, but don't we all these days? Well done. |
Oh, nearly forgot, you also sound younger than we know you are. I think that's quite enough flattery for one day... |
Great stuff dg. I downloaded realplayer specially. |
Robbie Vincent cut me off his show once because he said I sounded like Michael Jackson. Wanker. |
Robbie Vincent? Cor, I remember him (and Froggy, and Greg whatshisname on Capital Radio). In my lifetime, London's always been more soul than rock and roll. Anyway, I tuned in, skipping quickly past the Eltom John tracks. I think you came across very well. You're a natural. For someone who lives in Bow, I was expecting a bit more Robert Winstone though. But then you got to be wealthy or have a cushti job to be able to produce such a content-rich site, right? So I'm guessing you're not a local comp boy -- just a stab in the fading light. One last thing: when is the glossy coffee table book coming out? I think your stuff would make a great one (I'd buy it). Know any publishers? |
Like Chig, I picked up the East Anglian edge to the voice. I think I can place it more accurately. Suffolk? close to Ipswich? I might be cheating, as it might be my memory telling me that I've read about DG being from there in the blog pages at some point in the past. I work with a few people from this part of the English countryside you see. (Martlesham, Ipswich, Woodbridge etc.) |
I guess I should be pleased that nobody reads this blog quite stalkerishly enough to remember where I really grew up. |
So much for East Anglia eh? That mid-life crisis item that follows is so well written it's spooky. |
Well done DG, from an ardent reader (and BBC LDN online listener, as it happens) here in NYC. |
Luckily, there were two of us, and I was rescued by my colleague. I still have nightmares about it (but I've done TV bits since then which have been much better, so it's not all bad). |
El Cid: Was it Greg Edwards on Capital Radio? |
Nice slot sir! *ahem* Nice and confident, interesting and a great voice for radio. It'll be TV next - you mark my words... |
