**signs up for the one in Blaenau**

**walks to it** :D

**ends up losing 9 stone due to the length of walk**

In all seriousness though one of my mates did join a gym. He walked there and back (5 mile round trip, 2.5 of it uphill) and lost a load of weight and a fortune. He's now quit the gym and does the walk instead every day.

Sorry, I'm not going to join because you don't have a special offer for membership in January.

It's so true.

Well done DG

The January special price is usually higher than the one operating in October!

Nothing in Reading? Sorry I'll have to pass on this but it's so tempting!

You're right about the queues - I only swim, and yesterday there were 12 people in the pool where there are usually only 1-3.

I think that one should not overlook the positive aspects of swimming every day though (and there are lots of us who pay gym subs solely to swim in warm, clean pools)... in the 8 months I've been doing it, my RSI has largely vanished, and the ever-increasing aches and pains of ageing are kept under control.

However, I do worry about the gym bunnies I see every day - joint replacement candidates of the future methinks.

I heard two young girls on the tube yesterday saying that they kept to their diets over Christmas and couldn't understand why people ate so much! Eh? It's Christmas-one must eat,'tis the law.

use of whip optional !! !!

it’s not for me you understand, but are you sure the Piccadilly branch is full??

Use the Stairs. Eat less.

funny you should write this, as i'm off to join the gym today...i'm just tired of not fitting into my clothes well and i can't afford to get a whole new wardrobe.

Surely it's cheaper to buy a new wardrobe than sign your life away to the gym for a year?

Hilarious dg.

Gah. Buy a pedometer (£12) and go for a walk. Lose 1/3 of your body weight in 18 months. (It was rather a long walk).

Nobody ever mentions 'gluttony' as one of the 7 deadly sins anymore... now it's just 'gourmet cuisine'.

Walking is the way to go. Scientists tell us that walking is in fact 75\\% as effective as jogging as a form of excercise.

I didn't overeat at Christmas. I was collecting reserves for the long cold winter.

Hahaha, great post!

Seriously, where do I sign up...?

Surely it's cheaper to buy a new wardrobe than sign your life away to the gym for a year?.... One might hope so, mightn't one? But oh, dg, if only this were the case.

Nah, I didn't get lardy over christmas, I have always been a fatty-boombaa.

I have worked out that I am (Age - 9)stone always.

40 this year...bugger.

if i didn't have to wear nice clothes to work it might be cheaper to buy new ones than joining the gym...plus working out will (hopefully) add to my energy levels so i can actually be awake at the god-awful hour i start work at!

i miss uni...

pah! i hate saying this, but for once you're right.

the gym tonight was literally stuffed with people i've never seen before. Slowed my workout considerably and they're not very friendly.
