I used to live near the Open University in Milton Keynes in 1992. Whenever the bus stopped in the campus all these thin men with beards and bad fashion would get on, like the bus was some sort of sartorial time machine stuck in 1969.

Once again, you are the source of information I didn't know before. It's another sad milestone. Does this mean that all the language programmes in the middle of the night will be gone too? I've actually learnt stuff from them more recently and it would be a shame if they were no more.

I've been planning to mention this all week, but I forgot. So I've linked to your post.

How can you resist a TV program titled "Partial differential equations"?

It was the OU music that used to scary the bejesus out of me as a child. It always made me think of something creeping up behind me to attack

By chance I was actually awake and watching TV at that time this morning...didn't spot this though

Sad.

Today's youngsters may not have to OU's programmes to educate them but this is more than adequately compensated for by programmes which instruct them how to ballroom dance, be a pop singer and do stupid things if ever they get lost in a jungle. But is this progress?

Luckily we still have about 6 cable TV channels here in Seattle that carry academic programs. One can learn everything from brain surgery, liver transplant and disk implantation to more mundane topics like ancient babylonian history or wilderness survival tips.

Seeing as how some viewers equate learning with entertainment... it's a wonderful use of the otherwise toxic medium of TV.

The OU (product of the 60's Labour Govt) have made some good programmes. I've studied with them, it's hard work but very enjoyable.

I think they were responsible (or partly) for the fabulous COAST series.

The OU still part-funds a load of stuff, but it hasn't been the same since that creepy music went...

Creepy music, and those OU TV logos, here: http://www.meldrum.co.uk/mhp/ide...sity/

Having recently joined the Open U, I am eagerly awaiting my kipper tie DVD.

who exactly is rhonnda and why was the poor dear having an identity crisis?

Shame. At 2am the OU programmes were more often then not the only things worth watching.

Still, theres always Quiz Call instead - who says the great British public has dumbed down?

Look at the schedule :
Closedown
during the afternoon, what no TV?

It's hard to imagine now.

shame about the OU too.
