*sheds a tear* There is something so romantic about lost (Lost?) tube stations and I shall mourn York Road in adition to Strand. Happy Birthday Piccadily- I shall take my cake to Holborn.

Oh and a birth day? The District Line may be getting a new station name ahead of the games. A Tower Hamlets councillor wants to change the name of Aldgate East to 'Brick Lane', to reflect the growing fame of this culturally diverse street.

But Aldgate East isn't on Brick Lane. Not quite. The old Shoreditch station was on Brick Lane, but they shut that.

And London Transport don't change station names just because councillors suggest it, otherwise we'd probably see a rush of renamed stations like this...

• Southwark South Bank
• Harrods of Knightsbridge
• Ealing Broadway For All Your Shopping Needs
• Upminster (Gateway to the East)
• Lovely Lovely Neasden

I used to get the No10 bus past York Rd station and wonder when it had closed. And 7 years later, DG provides all the facts!

I always thought it was a bloomin' long way between Kings X and Caledonian Road, but never realised we were missing a station. Nicely informative again, DG!

I used to work around the corner from the old York Road station - it is, indeed, a ghostly presence. It could have had its reopening if Arsenal had moved to Kings Cross rather than Cashburden Grove, mind.
