DG, You can use the refund as a top-up on your oyster card. Just ask one of the kindly LU staff to oblige you.

I can? I wish they'd told me that in the letter. And it still seems like a waste of time to queue for something they could just have added to my card in the first place.

I finally got my £4 single-fare voucher this week, 6 weeks after I applied for it following a 2.5 hour delay stuck on the Central Line (and then dumped 10 miles from my destination at 8pm).

I emailed them to ask just the question you pose - why they couldn't just have added it to my card. I haven't yet had a reply...

Until recently they used to send you a cheque (I've had loads as I always claim, every time it happens, which seems to be most times I use the tube). The new voucher refund is not fare for people on holiday in London - but is a great way of them saving £££.

How many pink bags do you want?

Yep, I can confirm that you can use a voucher at a ticket office towards prepay. I had a card topped up with an 80p voucher which was a bus journey refund...

I'd imagine that the takeup rate of vouchers is much lower than if they put it straight on your oyster. Reason enough?

Thanks to you (and the ticket staff at Bow Road station) that £3 refund has now been added to my Oyster pre-pay. I don't think the six people who formed a queue behind me appreciated the kerfuffle I caused, though.

For a time in February and March 2006, the options on the online refund form were:
- On-line web account
- Load onto gates at selected station
- Credit voucher
( Accompanied by: "Tube station where you want your refund sent (online & loaded onto gates payment methods only)". )

I selected the "load onto gates" option once but don't know if it worked. I suspect not; the form had reverted to "Credit voucher" only by April, and a bunch of vouchers arrived in the post.

Dave - You can get a refund for bus journeys? How? I've always thought that was the meanest thing about buses, even on those occasions when you have to wait 40 minutes for a service due "about every 10-12 minutes" there is no compensation.

DG - Tower Hamlets have given our apartment block more pink bags than it could possibly ever need. If you want some then just send me a mail...

Chris - if I put a pink recycling bag out on my communal doorstep in the morning, it would undoubtedly be stolen before I got home.

I wish people would steal my rubbish. In theory it goes once a week. In practice ...
