Having spent formative years in all girls school (that explains a lot let me tell you) Florence Nightingale was my super hero. Without her and Helen Keller women were nowhere in the history books.

Flo also made notable contributions to the field of statistical analysis. She produced pie charts and so on, analysing the death rates of the soldiers in her care. These helped her convince her superiors to implement her changes. I believe she more-or-less invented some of the statistical chart types we see all the time today.
