Hey! if Cal-e-don-i-an Road has six syllables (enunciating the 'i') then surely Up-min-i-ster Bridge has five. Otherwise they should both be renamed Caledonyun Road and Upminsturr. |
I say Cal-e-don-i-an road and I work just off it and therefore say it a lot (if not saying cally road). It is definitely 6 syllabels. I have never said Caledonyun. I certainly have never said Up-min-i-ster in the same way I have never said West-min-i-ster becuase I would sound like a wally if I did. |
Ok, well, how many syllables does the word "comfortable" have. Three or four? I think we need the BBC's pronounciation department here. |
oops - just spotted DLR not allowed! |

Does DLR station "Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich" (9) count? |
Likewise, isn't Tottenham just two syllables, i.e. Tot-num? |
It's Upminster, not Upminister. Up Minister sounds like a very dodgy TV comedy from the 70s. |
I can assure you, Shuffling, it's pronounced Tot-te-nham not Tot-num. I should know, that's where I was born. |
In which case, I've never heard anyone pronounce it correctly. |
Well! That's just... just... *hides under table* |
