Good too see that dentistry is a subject for comment!

I personally find this Labour govt's failure on NHS dentistry much more agregious than the Iraq war.

Parochial? Maybe. But closer to home.

Number 2: ha! (I agree)

No 2? That's Numberwang!

Private dentistry is *not* like NHS dentistry!

NHS is cheaper, yes, but cheaper = a retriction on the materials that can be used and the procedures that can be carried out. Oh, and the timeliness of appointments...

You get what you pay for.
Luckily, you can afford to pay...

For the first couple of years after dentists go private they will offer more or less the same... then the prices creep up as they buy more new state-of-the-art equipment, move into brand new purpose-built surgeries, and Porsche Carreras for themselves. IME anyway. At least you can have a free apple when you've paid £60 for a check up...

It is strange when the government spouts on about "free at the point of delivery" with regard to healthcare, they somehow exclude the teeth.

If the same dentists offer NHS and private care, how can the care be any different at all?

"If the same dentists offer NHS and private care, how can the care be any different at all?"

Because they use more expensive materials, offer you different procedures and give you more of their time?

Reading all these footnotes is exhausting - please go back to just writing inappropriately exclusive stuff which may or may not be UK-based, or London based, or E3-based. Non UK/London/E3 readers can LOOK THINGS UP, after all that's what the internet is for -innit?

The good news is that my NHS-checked teeth are fine, so I don't need a private filling

But you will next year.
Even if you don't.
If you get my drift

Our dentist went private last year. It's £15 for a check up (boo-hoo twice a year) so that's no problem. And to be honest, the treatment is not that much more expensive. My mum's just had a series of different things done and thought it wasn't too much more.

Treatment under the NHS was never free.

Everybody should keep their private fillings private.
(unless they are a blogger of course....)

How come a 'private' check-up costs less than my NHS one? I paid £15.50 last time for a quick look, poke about and 'scale & polish', Took about 10 mins, so that's £93 per hour, not bad eh!

Tony Blair has lovely teeth for a man of his age.

By co-incidence, from something on the radio, I've just discovered that dentists who go private have to finish off any NHS treatment they recommended or started before they went private. You may need another check up on Monday DG
