I went to the Barbican Centre once to visit the RSC shop. Got lost finding the Centre, got lost inside the Centre.

Found the RSC Shop. It was closed.

I'm afraid I hate the Barbican Centre. I too get horrendously lost in the maze of ugly concrete. It would be top of my list for demolition, just ahead of Centre Point and the National Theatre on the South Bank.

It really is the most bemusing place isn't it? I had to go down regularly at uni to the (great) music library there, and if I didn't take the same path every time I ended up hideously lost. Saying that, it was tempting to be perverse and try and find Bank via the signposts or something. You can waste hours doing that...

Went to a graduation ceremony at the Barbican - it really comes into its own as an amazing venue for grand fuctions of that kind (cue lots of photos of graduates throwing mortar boards up in the air by the lake).

love the knitting-pattern style drawings of the barbican flats. i really really really want to live in one now!

I went to one of the first days of the Barbican conservatory in (what must have been) 1984, after it was featured in Time Out.

I went back a couple of years ago, and it's a shadow of its former self.

[btw what do you think of thoose spooky deserted elevators taking you up to the Barbican/Museum of London from street level? It almost feels like you're trespassing]

My partner K and I have long nursed a pipe-dream of living in the Barbican, so thanks for this - and especially for the links. (Whoops, didn't know about those service charges...)

More Foster show-off.
