Point of order, but Buck's Row is still exactly where it always was. It's called Durward Street now and follows exactly the same line as it did in 1888, although none of the buildings from that time are still there except for the Board School at the end, which has been converted into flats. The parking bay merely occupies what used to be the gateway into a stableyard, in front of which Polly Nichols body was found.

One bit of Whitechapel's history survives. People from villages and towns all over England (and indeed other parts of the world) will be called to worship each Sunday (or just woken up) by bells from the famous foundry.

Ooh, sorry, flickr was down earlier. You've got the wrong place on that photo. Polly Nichols body was found here, with her feet next to the pillar covered by the bush, lying straight along the line of the pavement.

I know this is nerdlike, but being my one and only area of expertise, I do like to be accurate about these things!

Well, thanks for that mini series. Most enjoyable and appreciated.

Also, the white chapel is sort of still there - at least, the stone ghost of its outline, in the grass of Ali Altab Park.

Becoming addicted to this blog..so thought I should at least comment to thank you for all the work. Current series really bringing me back to a summer working in London while a student when I lived off Hackney Road
