Just missed you DG, I was there first thing Saturday to see whether the Bluebells were out properly yet (they weren't).

Surely there's a BBC / PBS dramatic series to be made somewhere in all of this?

Thanks for yet another bit of fascinating history, of which I should have remained ignorant of, were it not for the DG blog.

:0)

Ooo yes, so you have. Have another piece of trivia, then. As you came down from Wanstead Station to St Mary's, you walked down a street with two lines of magnificent trees. These were planted by the Nutter sisters, quite a feature of local society they were, owned a lot of it. A row was planted in memory of each sister. There were three sisters, and so only two lines.

The best thing about the tea hut is that they give your a proper crockery mug. The lemon drizzle-cake's good too.

What's with the City of London page needing a log in, am I missing a trick there?

"On 14 April the City of London website will start a phased programme of improvements with an update to its navigation structure.

The new structure will go live with an interim homepage this afternoon and the next phase will refresh the look and feel and enhance the navigation further by providing direct access to the special services offered by the City Corporation."

So there you go, they're destroying all their old links in an attempt to better meet the needs of stakeholders. Sigh.

At 2 Hills Road Cambridge is an rather unenterprising property owned by the neighbouring Catholic Church. But it has original fireplaces and a staircase from Wanstead House. Recycling eh?
