You should be able to see fairly well from the top of the carparks, but its a shame that the viewing area went. I think the real reason was it was 130 stairs and no lift and so was not 'accessible' so now nobody can use it. Best place to look at planes is where they park near the strange roundabout thingy at Hatton cross - you get to drive across the slipway or whatever they call it and you can see them up close, including a concorde.

Oh the joys of air travel, I remember when it was a real adventure. I first flew the Atlantic in 1955, with my parents to NYC. Leaving the aircraft I was given a flight bag with TWA, it was like a badge of honor.

I understand the viewing platform went because they're going to level terminal 2 and start again when T5 opens.

Also, you forget that Hillingdon's actually got TWO airports, with the odd, lost passenger jet occasionally touching down at RAF Northolt.

Not sure about Heathrow being in southwest London, though? West, maybe. Northwest, ideally (to keep the noise down here in leafy southwest London).

If anybody wants to discover the thrills and spills of banger racing and can't find a nearby racetrack, try driving around Heathrow Airport for a short while. It is almost the same experience.

One other snippet of info I was told when on a business visit to Alpha Retail (former duty free shop owners) at Heathrow was that their outlet in the transit terminal (is that Term 2, I can't remember), is the highest grossing retail outlet in Europe, its the terminal that handles the far east and middle east flights stopping over before going onto the USA, perfume and whisky being the stuff that flys off the shelf.

The use of a "JCB" card doesn't mean you can drive diggers in the airport, it means that you have an unlimited visa/mastercard and they see several during any given day, the holders often spend thousands in the shops while waiting for a transfer - a bit like me when I go on me hollys then.
