Hey DG!

I was stationed at RAF Uxbridge from '80 to '83, and I imagine the town has changed quite a bit since then. I don't recall either of the shopping centers you mentioned and am quite sure they didn't exist back in the day.

You are aware of the WW II air defense command center bunker on the RAF station, right? The bunker used to available for tours, but I believe you had to arrange a tour in advance; it wasn't just a "walk up" proposition. A lot of things change in over 20 years, tho.

Buck - the two shopping malls date from 1988 and 'much more recent'.

And yes, you can still book a tour of RAF Uxbridge in advance, but only in writing, and I didn't have enough time to wait for a reply.

Well, it could have been worse... The Borough of Wembley. Other than the incomplete stadium, there ain't squat to see.
At least, when i was growing up there in the '70's there was a stadium.

Hillingdon...that's where my godmother lived!

AHHHHHHH SWAN! GOD LORD BIRD FLU MAN! AHHHHHHH

Are you all right, DG? I worry about you sometimes.

Hey I used to live at Ruislip manor in the early 60`s.

Hee. I can see that as the town's motto: 'Yiewsley: You can do better'.

Originally being from Ruislip, I particularly enjoyed this blog. Even in the 60's Ruislip Lido was packed during the summer, but went into decline thereafter. It was a great shame the original art deco buildings were burnt down. Things have greatly improved in the last 10 years or so. (As a minor point of detail, the miniature railway probably extends for about half the circumference of the Lido).

Did you visit all these places in one day by public transport? You must have got home very late at night.

Great little write-up: thank you — and thanks for the links.
