I'm still convinced that the mystery count is about summat mucky.

#10 - So close! You know it's only thing that keeps us checking back to your site year after year DG ... the hope that one day the mystery count will be revealed...

Not with Geoff at all on this one. The important part is to see if it has risen above 0. Finding out what is being counted is bound to be an anticlimax. Much, much, much, much more fun to speculate about what it might be.

If Ant is right, then I wonder what he calls a 0.3? Now, that *is* an interesting thing to speculate about...

0.3? So that would be, like, first base then?

I wonder if this mystery count might rise above zero in any other month? If it happened in March, would you tell us?

Ah yes Alan, that's what I was thinking, but it's one's definition of 'first base' that's important, isn't it?

Perhaps the four people on your blogroll could all meet up anyway, and pass a pleasant evening speculating on the mystery count? (My current theory is too rude for your box.)

I just love how we've all gone down exactly the same road with regards to the mystery count.

Marvellous.

I reckon it's "number of pens stolen from work", and he only stole the lid.

Only me? Good good.

are these cups of tea (small and rather posh with the little finger cocked) or mugs? If they are mugs - large or small? Just trying to get some idea of the overall quantity of tea per month.

i'm not having this.

i've asked if you want to come out 3 times this month, and the answer's been N O each time.

can't offer much in the way of sympathy when it's self inflicted... :o)

Well, he usually says 'yes' when *I* ask if he wants to come out to play. I just haven't asked in February this year. Can't imagine what's wrong with the rest of you

The mystery count is quite clearly going to the library. You got as far as the community noticeboards before suddenly realising that you'd forgotten your library card.

Re Count 1: Some of your 'intelligent, extended global audience' might be visiting more than once a day - to skim through first, then to read properly, and perhaps once more to see the comments.
So the total count would refer to the number of visits rather than the number of visitors/readers - right?
Or is there some Orwellian device that records how many visits per day have come from each computer?

dg writes: Total number of visits, yes, not total number of visitors. Although I believe if you come back too quickly you don't get counted again.

No comment from DG about the mucky mystery count I notice. High minded, world-weary self restraint? Or have we hit the nail on the head and you just want to keep quiet about it?

The point of the annual 'mystery count' is that it remains a mystery

I like surprises.

Yes Great Aunt Annie, I visit first thing each morning to see if there's any chance of kittens featuring in the day's post. If not, I sulk a bit and come back later to read the comments.

Mystery Count suggestions:

No of programmes watched on ITV
No of fares skipped on train/tube/bus
No of letters written to MP
No of creme eggs eaten

And anticipation here as well for the mystery count? Hmmm.

Number of cigarettes smoked? *shrug*

No. of trains on time?
