This post made me laugh so much I actually fell off my chair.

Try changing your number to 1234 and see what happens

Brilliant. Classic DG.

Couldn't get any money on Friday as I couldn't get the numbers right. No time to go home again and refresh the brain, but I was able to get a travelcard at the Underground booking office because they still take a cheque with bank guarantee card. I moan enough about LUL but this time they came to the rescue, so thanks.

I don't get the big deal about 'forgetting' the number. The number I have is the same as my PIN number. I've had to remember THAT number since I got a bankcard... what... 15 years ago? So why the big hoo-haa now?

Is it more secure? No. But that doesn't seem to be the issue for most people. Most odd.

Another hammer nailed into handwriting's coffin...

meh, whatever.

If you ever find a man's card lying around, try 6969. In my experience, that's quite popular with blokes.

I remember my PIN - please note I have heeded your advice and not said 'PIN number' - because it's the random number I was given in 1984 when I opened a bank account. It has no pattern or significance, but after 22 years it's pretty hard to forget.

I wonder if you did get any PINs put in the little boxes by your readers?
If so perhaps you could give us the result of your survey...

I've often wondered how our intrepid RAF airmen when captured by Jerry during the war remembered to only give their tag number only?. I can't remember my mobile, wife/children's birthdays and – oh now what was I writing about? I've forgotten already? Where's that dark room?

I'm not going to forget those digits.

Hell no.

Could you imagine the shame if you forgot the number? It would almost be as bad as getting a Code 10 on your card...

Im sorry, Im australian and we have ALWAYS used PIN's so, had i not just gotten back from the UK 2 days ago i would have no idea as to what you are talking about!

I think it is Hilarious that people have so much trouble trying to remember four small digits! I guess its the same age old argument of the banks putting a daily withdrawl limit on YOUR savings account, hang on a minute its YOUR saving account. That right your own money - but wait you can only withdraw a certain amount of it a day and not only that the amount differs with every bank!!
