What if an underground station was renamed after a corporate sponser? It could happen ? It has happened !

Gillespie Road was renamed after Arsenal Football Club persuaded the powers that be to do so (one suspects money was involved).

And if you go to the end of Marylebone Bakerloo line platform you will see "Great Central" spelt out in the tiles. The Great Central Railway company very nearly persuaded such a corporate sponsorship of the underground station serving their main terminus. At the last moment the idea was rejected (not enough sponsorship ?)

There is actually a station on one of the SPT lines out of Glasgow named I.B.M. as their building is the only place the station serves. Joe public can use the platforms, but you need a staff pass to leave the station.

As for my suggestion.. err.. Veluxbridge?? Brillo Paddington?

Thanks for linking to the Cool Blue Shed. Much appreciated. Great site. Here's a few ideas for sponsored tube stations:

Russell Hobbs Square
IBM-bankment
Network-Q Gardens
Leyton Stones Ginger Wine
Westbourneville Park

How about Old Holborn? I was going to combineit with Old Street but some one beat me to it.

Hang on! This idea could really work. With the 2012 Olympics coming, Gordon Brown probably needs about £250 million (a wild guess) per sponsor to authorise the name change for a particular station (with the contract expiring in 2013).
