how funny was nathan barley? very.
i swear i once saw someone overtake me on shoreditch high street on a spacehopper.

Very nice. And your pictures are great (I especially like 'Chillis' - superb)

But you missed out Sh! in Hoxton Square. Perhaps not everybody's cup of tea, but a hidden gem in the area, if there ever was one!

I really hate Hoxton, both the hovel side and the trendy side. Unfortunately as well I used to work on Old Street - slightly nearer to the Barbican and I hated that area as well. I felt there was hardly anything of note at that end apart from a nice church on Old Street where they do some good concerts sometimes and the Ironmonger Row Steam Baths nearby. (although this is part of Islington)

However, I totally agree with you on the Geffrye Museum and I took part in the tour in the summer of 2004. The little cafe/restaurant at the Museum is also really nice.

I don't like the Geffrye Museum. The last time I went I dropped my camera and broke the LCD screen which cost over £70 to replace (and that was just for the part - sourced from a Value place).

Well, actually... I love the Geffrye Museum. It just has a bad association now.

The gardens are fabulous, and the gardeners are always willing to chat about plants, what they're doing, and what they're hoping to achieve in the future.

And the best thing? It's free

Hey Annie: I used to trek Old Street on occasions - did you ever use the Turkish Baths on Ironmonger Row? Also - there was a little market (forgotton the name now) that used to do various random stuff down a narrow street (could have been Whitecross Street?)

Anyway, back to Hackney: my outlaws live in the East End - and when I used to live in Clapham I used to drive up through Kennington -> Elephant -> Borough -> City -> Old Street -> Hackney Road -> Camb.Heath -> Well St -> Hackney Wick etc. to get to their place, and I have distinct memory of seeing people carrying huge plants and flower pots emerging from side streets on Sunday mornings down Hackney Road. Is that the famous Columbia Rd market I wonder? I never did stop to see that market.

Jag - yes I went to the Turkish bath once on ladies night. It was very relaxing and good value. And yes that tatty little market nearby is on Whitecross Street. Amongst all the rubbish used to be and myabe still is a couple of vans that sold really good takeaway thai food and takeaway indian. There was also a good Japanese tiny restaurant down there.

I used to pass the Geffrye Museum nearly every other day on the way to work from my boyfriend's house - we always swore we'd go to see it 'this weekend' and never have done yet. It's on the list though.

Ah, the once-great 333...
*sighs for his lost youth*

I used to live behind the Geffrye Museum. I could tell you things about one of the security guys. But won't!
