This is actually making me really sad now

I'm looking forward to seeing the first ever episode of On the Buses on BBC4's bus night.

And that sad face looks more angry than sad that's better

I remember the first time I saw Swiss Cottage. I did get a sense of not quite what I was expecting.

Puts a whole new meaning to reading between the lines. Fabulous post DG

A wonderful ode to the passing of the Routemaster. Great post.

After Portman Sq isn't it Gloucester Place rather than Grosvenor Place?

Fantastic as ever.

(thought it was odd that you hadn't covered it when the Routemasters went from it, but all is explained...)

(now for the obligatory nit-picking)
Frognal (which really is named after the frogs which live or lived there - of the amphibian, not gallic kind) isn't really a subdivision of good old WH (true, the block that Finchley Road and Frognal railway station isn't very nice) - but if you go up the hill along the road called Frognal, and the adjacent roads, you're in one of the poshest parts of Hampstead. (I imagine on that side of Finchley Road, NW3, you might get a bit of snootiness for referring to it as West Hampstead, NW6)

Another thing: I can't speak for St Johns Wood, but here in Swiss Cottage (about 3 mins walk from the nearest no 13 bus stop) you'd be surprised (i am) at how many trees still bear large numbers of leaves.

Final thing: the one-man buses on the 13 now are about as nice as the new buses get, far superior to most of the others around town; seems we were relatively lucky. Miss being able toget on/off illicitly, though.

Next!

Cheers, DG.

< sings verse of "Maybe it's because I'm a londoner" (even if I grew up in Dagenham remix)>

Maybe I've been away from London too long. But what's Georgian about Regent Street?

Regent Street
Designed 1811 (under George III)
Named after the Prince Regent (later George IV)
Completed 1825 (under George IV)

Clever stuff with the grey matter, DG. Especially in this bit (repeated in black only)
Don't forget to show your ticket to the friendly conductor who's now finally found time to inspect the upper deck - that's one job less to do.
