have taken the number 3 in the past .. a good tour bus as you say once you go past the big sights on the River

I caused outrage and scandal by saying that I was councillor for the ugliest statue in the whole of London. Fortunately, this was a private conversation with friends, but it seems wrong that such a grotesque piece of statuary, paid for by private riches for private vanity can so dominate a transport chicane.

Ha DG, Barking and Dagenham (and some of the bleakest parts thereof) tomorrow, I presume (route 5). Hope you are prepared. And, if necessary, armed. Good luck!

I am not quite sure how true this is but, according to one entry on the Radio and Telly forum, living very near Crystal Palace doesn't necessarily mean you get good TV reception - especially digital. I quote "If you are too close, you may get a rubbish signal simply because it's all being squirted over your head". Apparently it is called the "Penge Effect".

I propose that this feature next year is changed slightly so dg cycles the London bus routes. I cycle UP that bloody No 3 route once a week to get the basketball.

Not so scenic when your back's about to give way yet again.

If you hold out for a couple of months for the 5, it's going to be extended to Romford. That means you won't have to get out at flat, dreary, depressing, miserable Becontree Heath.

Too late
Still, I'm sure I can slip the phrase "dreary, depressing, miserable Becontree Heath" into tomorrow's post with ease.

"dreary, depressing, miserable, unlovely, intimidating, grey, windswept, bleak, bland, decaying, unloved and thoroughly nasty" Becontree Heath would also do...

Of course (unlike Becontree) it should be spelt "Beacontree Heath" and used to be Nannygoat's Common. But now - - its horrible, as you know. The pub that Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's "Dagenham Dialogues" in was there too - the Merry Fiddlers. Now a petrol station stands on the site. Says it all really. Nothing to laugh about at all.

DG on a bicycle!
Don't make me laugh!!
