Very true about volunteers staffing little known tourist attractions and charity shop workers.

I volunteered to man an art exhibiton run by a charity one afternoon in a gallery just off Great Portland Street, so hardly in the middle of nowhere.

It was one of the most boring afternoons I had ever spent in my life. I think about three people came in from about 3pm till 6.30pm and I was just reading as there was only so much of the art exhibition itself I could take in.

The analogy with blogging is also spot on as usual

Nicely put, and thanks for ending on a positive note. I think "bothering" is what makes us human and if just one person is touched by your efforts then it's worth it.

..yep much easier to read on the toob DG.. thanks

I can recommend a day out in Ipswich though. Christchurch Mansion has the largest collection of Constable's paintings outside of London. As I reckon the queues will be shorter there too...

I was going to leave a longer comment, but I've just slit my wrists at the sheer hopelessness of it all.
