Fleet Street has had long connections with the gutter - so I suppose the river becoming a drain shouldn't be so surprising. Look forward to hearing about the bubbling.

Erm... that walk you went on...

"This walk is part dowsing, part water-witching, part urban geography."

Any more success this time?

Coincidence - I was Googling on the River Fleet over the weekend. I should have saved time and just come straight here.

The phrase, 'undrinkable open sewer' made me think that somewhere there might be drinkable ones.
Lovely montage.
Looking forward to reading all this.
Shame about the conkers

Looking forward to this DG. I took a bus from King's Cross to Blackfriars last night and was thinking to myself that I wanted to explore this area more, especially the area around Clerkenwell (will you be dropping into the House of Detention?).

It will be an interesting day indeed if DG succesfully dowses!

Great stuff. Used to work near Fleet St, now work near Farringdon Road... Great area for exploring.

last year 'they' put some blue flags around clerkenwell to mark the route of the river fleet. i've forgotten who 'they' were but i think i remember you mentioning it.

Good show DG. Really looking forward to this one. Now, how about Effra, Tyburn etc!!

i am ridiculously interested in london's "hidden rivers." great topic choice!

They were going to call the Jubilee line the Fleet line, you know, until at the very last minute, they came over all royalist.

Carry on.
