Fleet Street has had long connections with the gutter - so I suppose the river becoming a drain shouldn't be so surprising. Look forward to hearing about the bubbling. |
Erm... that walk you went on... "This walk is part dowsing, part water-witching, part urban geography." Any more success this time? |
Coincidence - I was Googling on the River Fleet over the weekend. I should have saved time and just come straight here. |
The phrase, 'undrinkable open sewer' made me think that somewhere there might be drinkable ones. Lovely montage. Looking forward to reading all this. Shame about the conkers |
Looking forward to this DG. I took a bus from King's Cross to Blackfriars last night and was thinking to myself that I wanted to explore this area more, especially the area around Clerkenwell (will you be dropping into the House of Detention?). |
It will be an interesting day indeed if DG succesfully dowses! dg writes: not a chance! |
Great stuff. Used to work near Fleet St, now work near Farringdon Road... Great area for exploring. |
last year 'they' put some blue flags around clerkenwell to mark the route of the river fleet. i've forgotten who 'they' were but i think i remember you mentioning it. dg writes: 'they' were Fluid. More in 3 weeks! need a lift on saturday? |
Sue is going to be a busy lass on Sunday |
Good show DG. Really looking forward to this one. Now, how about Effra, Tyburn etc!! |
i am ridiculously interested in london's "hidden rivers." great topic choice! |
They were going to call the Jubilee line the Fleet line, you know, until at the very last minute, they came over all royalist. Carry on. |
