PCSO Powers The Issue of Fixed penalty Notices in Respect of - Cycling on Footpath Confiscation of Alcohol in Designated Public Places Confiscation of Alcohol from Young persons Confiscation of Tobacco from Young Persons Removal of Abandoned Vehicles (In liaison with Council) Entry to save life or limb or prevent serious damage to property. Carry out Road checks (With Uniformed Officer) Enforcing Cordon Areas under Section 36 Terrorism Act 2000 Stop and Search of Vehicles and Items carried by persons in authorised areas Section 44 and 45 Terrorism Act 2000 Stopping Vehicles for the purpose of carrying out emission test (With Uniformed Officer) Stopping Vehicles for the purpose of carrying out weight tests (With uniformed Officer) Traffic Direction Power to require Name and Address. Where reasonable belief of a relevant offence Fixed Penalty offence Offence involving injury/alarm/distress Offence involving loss/damage to property Reasonable belief that subject is acting in an Anti Social Manner. The above powers are being reviewed on a regular basis and are likely to change with further announcements from the Home Office. Because of their non-confrontational role they are encouraged to observe and not get directly involved in situation where personal injury may occur. However, there have been instances where PCSO have been directly involved which has led to an arrest or other action eg: Illegal immigrants Burglar leaving premises as PCSO patrols area Unlicensed salespeople on service areas Identifying bogus officials Discovery of stolen material whilst on foot patrol Identification of wanted persons whilst on foot patrol Identifying vehicles used in crimes Seizure of vehicles Impotent? |
Shame we don't have any PCSO on my morning run then.... every morning I curse at the same three adult cyclists screaming down the pavement. As a cyclist who always manages to find the road I find this particularly annoying. |
