I haven't read those Dan Brown books either.

A) Not as far as I know. Got some about a week ago from tesco.com. Stopped selling the crunchy cluster cereal with chocolate pieces though

B) I haven't read a single one of those books too.

C) Nope. But probably.

D) Yeah, I've noticed that, it updated for me yesterday, then kind of retracted that update.

Tesco at Trafalgar Square was all boarded up yesterday (though open and serving). Paranoia, I thought, no one would ever target a Tesco and then came home to read that about the Tesco in Hackney Central (?!?)

what's going on?

I read Angels and Demons at the time of the recent Papal election which made it even more interesting.

It is a great read but the twist at the end was a bit too far fetched and stupid.

B) if you like a bit of brain fluff light reading with ludicrous plots then yes you are wrong not to have read them.

You are lucky. I was "persuaded" to read the Da Vinci Code. The writing is abysmal, the characters are one-note caricatures and the plot is entirely ludicrous. No wonder it became such a best-seller.

I enjoyed Davinci Code and 3/4's of the way through Angels & Demons which isn't bad. Just typical american thriller really.

Freeview is set to start broadcasting E4 & E4+1 from May 27th.

re. B) I've read three of Brown's books now, and while they're OK easy-reading, far too many conspiracy theorists and the like seem to be taking them far too seriously.

Brainless, appallingly written, but not bad for a tube journey or similar.

And that's as good a review of them as I'll be seen to give.

E4 on Freeview is timed to coincide with the beginning of BB. The amount of advertising revenue gained will far outweigh the revenue from potential lost subscriptions.

The Da Vinci Code was terrible.

I'm with Alan on the Da Vinci Code. I was so ashamed with myself that I couldn't stop reading to the very end... Won't touch the others, but my girlfriend swears by them.

I refuse to read the Da Vinci code for fear I will be sucked in and turn into one of those conspiracy theory weirdos and start touring remote churches and checking bible references.

Don't bother with the DA Vinci Code..... too long, cop-out ending and as already mentioned badly written.

I haven't read any of them, and don't intend to either...

A) No idea. I live in Australia.
B) The Da Vinci Code. That's six hours of my life that I won't be getting back. For a more reasoned review;

C) See answer to question A above
D) Seems to be working for me.

DaVinci Code wasn't so bad, because the plot did have some interesting turns in it; and I've always believed that a good story will overcome atrocious writing. (But that's how I justify my SF reading)

Got 50 pages into Angels & Demons. Nope. Just atrocious writing.

Da Vinci Code only, just because it was indeed sooo popular. I would recommend giving it a go, if only for the points on Da Vinci's paintings. The Last Supper really did make my jaw drop, and is pretty much the only thing that Tony Robinson didn't debunk apparently.

The rest is standard conspiracy thriller stuff - characters driven by the plot (weak generally with an enormous hole), hackneyed dialogue, unlikely coincidences etc etc. Occasionally you get the odd peek of something that might come from some real life actual historical theory but that's about it. Only worth it really because you can read it very very quickly.

A - don't know I'm afraid, why don't you make your own.

B - read the first 1/3 of The DVC - what a load of nonsense

C - no idea

D - it's not just your blog - mine is not recognised either

No Dan Brown, no interest.

What is so sad that is that all this guff about Opus Dei it seems to have kicked up. Well my parents encountered Opus Dei in the 1950s; my father spent a couple of years in the 60s extricating a colleague from their clutches; in the 80s my cousin infiltrated them to gather information, and my subsequent colleague spent a year in their Halls of Residence trying to avoid them; my neighbour's son has been a 'supernumary' since the late 90s.
