On a related note - my second biggest Value Energy Tip to people is always come off monthly direct debit. You will invariably be paying more than you need and it's better in your bank account than theirs.

Most energy companies will give you the same discount for paying quarterly in arrears by direct debit, as monthly on a guestimated plan.

My biggest tip is to ensure you are on the cheapest tarrif. Use uswitch or another comparison site for a rough calculation. If you are still with the company who used to provide the energy in your area before deregulation you will NEVER be on the best tarrif.
