i love these reports. ta.

more please Sir.

Excellent as ever DG. Is Basildon Bond still just down from where t'airport used to be? I wrote them a letter as part of a project when at school in neighbouring Surrey... they never replied.... bastards!

...AND I met my first real (ie: not the girl across the road) girlfriend at a church hall disco just round the corner from Carshalton Ponds.... I'd forgotten about that until I saw that piccie.

Nice water tower

For god's sake do Hackney. I want to know about Hackney.

Hackney!!

...mostly because I am too lazy to do it myself.

p.s. compelling reading as per normal.

I'm with Uncle Hunty on that one, especially the bit about compelling reading...

Geezer, I'm addicted to your blog. As a Londonder away from home it helps with those homesickness vibes I regularly suffer from (see blog!) I used to do little visits like this when I first moved to London, as a student, in 93. Me and my boyfriend at the time used to look through the back of the A-Z and if there was a place we liked the name of, we'd go there, explore and then visit the local boozers. I've lived all over the city: Barking, Muswell Hill,Ilford, Plaistow, Holloway, Seven Kings, Primrose Hill, Ilford, Nunhead and Rotherhithe. Yes, Primrose Hill was a lucky break and it was in 95 when NW1 was actually cool.

I'm ashamed to say that I was really happy when you did Islington and ended up a five minute walk from my flat. (to grab a picture of Zoffany Rd. - oh to live near such a famous place!)

I'm moving to Wandsworth soon, so I'm asking BW to cast a spell on your jamjar...

Brilliant read, as ever!

Reading your blog, and especially these 'random borough' pieces always makes me wish I actually lived in London so I could go and have a look at all the places myself. (I try to make up for it whenever I go to London, but it just isn't the same.)

Trust me, you're not missing out by not visiting Sutton.

But I'd love to read what other people might write about random parts of their own neighbourhood - Random Manchester ghetto or Random Suffolk village or Random Australian beach, for example.

No there isn't a great deal in Sutton but we are near so many other places - and also easy to get out of London for Brighton and the south coast. Also the smaller towns like Dorking, Leatherhead and villages around there which are nice for a Saturday mooch around.

We do have lots of parks, such as Cheam, Nonsuch and Beddington parks which are great for picnics and days out with the kids. OK, some may be technically in another jurisdiction. In fact it is a pretty good place for families which is why we moved here.

I've also lived in Uxbridge, Kennington, Acton, Chiswick and Ealing. It may not have some of the features of some of those places but it doesn't have the costs either.

Great series.

"You can always tell when somewhere suburban is pretty because it's full of people exercising their dogs and looking the other way when they foul the grass."

So VERY true. All the parts of Hampstead Heath near an entrance or car park are now so fouled and overrun with poorly and mostly completely untrained dogs it's awful.
