So, you sit at the front on the top deck. Now that IS anorak.

Licking my lips already about what you make of the 36, the BEST route in all of London

I don't think I've *ever* enjoyed a journey to and from work so much as the all-too-brief fortnight I worked in Bush House (itself being lost by the Beeb very soon) in 2001. There were quicker ways of commuting, but I decided to go via Hammersmith each day to do the journey on the 9. Marvellous.

Those new buses have those weird TVs that show you the inside of the bus from the CCTVs... I don't see the point really.

I too remember a school tour of the Commonwealth Institute. I don't regret it's passing though. I picked up loads of leaflets about the dynamic and progressive state of Malawi and proceed to submit a project in the same vein, whereas in fact, not communicated to my naive childs mind, it was an oppressive dictatorship.

"I could have told them everything there is to know about Piccadilly as we sped down the bus lane there, but instead I chose to keep quiet."

You're such a Londoner!

I lived in Commonwealth Hall during my first year at university. We had our Christmass Ball at the Commonwealth Institute. (Well, we would do, wouldn't we?) It was the only university ball I went to. For that, if nothing else, I fell somewhat sad at its passing.

I too have fond memories of visits to the Commonwealth Institute 40 years ago! I was unaware that it had closed down - very sad. Thanks for the update dg.

i find the range rover far more comfortable than 'bussing it' when i come up to town. I don't understand what all the fuss is about.

Surprised! So where has the headquarters of the Commonwealth moved to now, then?

the number 9 was the first routemaster that stopped and that i boarded for LIGHTYEARS. i was so overcome with excitement that i jumped on without thinking where it was going. didnt matter, i enjoyed the ride. Why destroy such an iconic part of Londons image?
