Nicely put.

Interesting programme. I'm sorry that I can't be there.

That's about the sum of it. I don't suppose much running of the country has been done in the past couple of weeks.

Is anyone else struck by the enormous pettiness of this scandal? I mean, in any other country (indeed, even here in the nineties during 'cash for questions'), politicians only get the brown envelopes in return for influence or legislation. Here in the UK we've managed to contrive a system whereby they can bribe themselves and don't then have to repay the favour to any shady interests or criminal elements. Perhaps we're on to something after all?

You know, I sometimes have difficulty telling irony and reality apart in DG's postings. I really can't decide whether comments like "all of this was Michael's fault" are what DG believes or whether he is just winding us all up.

Personally, I dont believe the Speaker SHOULD have been pushed out. The MPs were just seeking blood in order to assuage their own guilt. Now the Speaker has gone they can all pat themselves on the back and mutter "It was his fault that we did it" and feel morally cleansed. Bastards, the lot of 'em. Specially Ms Moran, who seems to have gone into hiding now that Saint Esther is on her case. Will Cyril Fletcher be standing for Sidcup and Old Bexley?

Do people realise that the speaker/deputy speaker are unable to vote in Parliament?

Given this, I fail to see how how they can represent their constituents.

Surely the Torygraph would have at least a 4 minute Hate.

Unfortunately whilst this continues the economic crisis remains a.. crisis.

Great post again. My blood started to boil in the first line or two, but then I got it. I think the speaker probably should have gone because of some of the intemperate things he said about other MPs. But the expenses thing is really getting out of proportion.

"Did you go and see the prisoners hanged yesterday?" said Syme.

"I was working," said Winston indifferently. "I shall see it on the flicks, I suppose."

"A very inadequate substitute," said Syme.

"It was a good hanging," Syme said reminiscently. "I think it spoils it when they tie their feet together. I like to see them kicking. And above all, at the end, the tongue sticking right out, and blue a quite bright blue. That's the detail that appeals to me."

Never did warm to him.

Bring back Betty, that's what I say, with her Matronly charms

I think this is the first time this has been done in over 300 years. It's been a long time coming, hasn't it?

A witty and light-hearted post. But then I wouldn't expect anything less from DG.

Great idea. Can we copy it here (in Israel)? Some of ours aren't much better (or even worse).
