How about 'Roxy'. This was my Saturday morning treat when I were a lad. Still preferred the Odeons though; nicer kitch architecture. In Jakarta, they're all Century 21 and show the same dire movies. Thanks to the (lack of) law enforcement agencies here, we have a really great choice of pirated DVDs at c.30p each. |

"ODEON" stands for "Oscar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation". Curiously, My great grandfather designed the Epsom ODEON. The facades were specified by Oscar himself - lovely 1930s minimalism - but the insides were all decorated by his wife, and ended up being absurd, vaguely oriental overblown blasts of wonderful kitsch. |
