Excellent! I always wondered what was going on with that station.

At 1914, you left out the renaming of CC to CC(Strand). This makes 1915 somewhat confusing before coffee kicks in.

They should really split CC into two stations again. It's a worthless interchange without the Jubilee in-between.

If you want to get to Charing Cross from London Bridge (as I frequently do), it's quicker to go above ground.

Except I *always* forget that fact and jump on the Jubilee Line thinking it stops at Charing Cross. It's been baffling me for ages why I always think that and now I know. I don't remember them shutting the station. Hopefully from now on I will.

Damn, this is fascinating! I don't suppose you know of a 3D sort-of map type thing online, where I can get a better visual idea of how deep the lines and stations are in relation to each other?

Chz: Oops, I edited out the 1914 CC(Strand) renaming by mistake, Full text now restored.

Sarah: Thanks for asking, because I've found a 3D sort-of map type thing online! It's here. And more 3D stations here. Fascinating indeed.

I remember ducking into Charing Cross once after a long day to see whether it was true that some politician had resigned. I came in off the Strand and thought, great, there's a huge TV screen - it's bound to be on that. It took me over a minute to realise I was staring at a Sky News poster...

oh no - I can't get the 3D link to work. Now I am fascinated.

Quink: Oops again. Link should be fixed now.

The Piccadilly Circus woodcut is superb and really charming. Btw - thanks for the link to Hackney Lookout, but I think you've added in an extra http in the address...

I'm really not doing well on links today, sorry. That's the third one I've messed up. But the link to Hackney Lookout should work now (and is highly recommended, everybody ).

that's great - cheers dg! Really interesting. Now, someone should put all the pictures together so we have a subterranean map of the entire underground. In flash. Now that would rock.

Links on DG's 9:06 post now broken.
