This is one of my favourite parts of the London Loop because of its accessibility. It begins just 5 minutes away from the very urban shopping area of Uxbridge. Then you are in a pleasant canal country. After you have got over the roar of the motorway you feel you are on the canal in the middle of Buckinghamshire or Hertfordshire rather than the edge of London. I hope HS2 won't spoil that magic.
We walked this section earlier this year. Second time for us, first time for son (last time he was a baby in the backpack). Really enjoyed it.
This is were I spent my childhood nearly sixty years ago, I still remember the area with great affection.
You can just see the floating dock in your photo of Denham Deep Lock - don't think there is another like it on the canal syste,. They sink the boat, pull a narrowboat above it and then place wooden planks at the back then pump out the water. Takes a couple of houses I'm told. We had our narrowboat hull painted there back in September and its a pretty neat system. I see there is a boat in the dock now.
We are moored on the Slough Arm (its much nicer than it sounds!) so use this section of the canal fairly often. Nice to moor at the top of Denham Deep Lock - almost rural and yet 10 minutes bike ride into Uxbridge and the world of Oyster.
