Spaced was, I believe, Finsbury Park.

And Chigwell's in Essex. That's cheating.

Too much time on my hands...

What about Dream Stuffing, a Channel 4 effort from 1984, about two girls living in a tower block somewhere in East London?

2 point 4 children was filmed around Ealing.

15 Storeys High was filmed in Kennington.

Then there's The Young Ones, which was Camden, I think.

Brush Strokes was set in Motspur Park. (They're repeating it on Paramount at the moment, my memory's not that good!)

IIRC, My Family is a London-based sitcom.

Spaced...was a classic. The best ever.

You knew that right?

Not in Front of the Children (Wendy Craig's 60's BBC sitcom)- set in Battersea.

& Terry Scott/Hugh Lloyd's late 60s BBC2 offering, a feeble pun on Zurich meant that the Gnomes of Dulwich was obviously set in Dulwich.

Citizen Smith was set in Tooting. Lord knows it needs some claim to fame.

I thought Spaced was set in Kentish Town/Holloway? - at least, according to the commentary on the DVD's, certain scenes were filmed on Holloway Road.

*looks down and tries to hide anorak*

*fails*

The Young ones may have been set in Camden, but much of it was filmed in Bristol. Remember "The Kebab & Calculator"? - a pub even worse in real life!

'The Good Life' may have been set in Surbiton, but the actual exterior filming location was Northwood.

'Are You Being Served?' was based on writer Jeremy Lloyd's experience working at Simpsons in Picadilly, therefore I would guess you could place it in central London.

Having just watched the last episode of Spaced on the train this morning, I can say that the house they live in is 3 miles from St Pancras. And I think Pix is right about it being Kentish Town.

Sun Hill Police Station from "The Bill" is in Mitcham/Colliers Wood. I know it's now classed as a soap but it used to be funny. Ish.

pace Dave and Lloyd, i thought 'Are You Being Served?' was based on Gamage's department store in Holborn...

After On The Buses, Reg Varney starred in a short-lived sitcom set in Billingsgate Fish Market.(Down the Gate?)
(Just for a laugh - Wasn't there one set in a London railway station? Oh yes, Bread, set in Liverpool Street!)

Tony S,

Is it The Cock O' The North, in Henleaze?

Does anyone know where Hyacinth Bucket is supposed to prowl ??

I can imagine her in Ewell or certain parts of Cheam (SW London/Surrey border).......

Pat

The Cock o' the North, indeed. With the pub landlord from hell. Sample conversation:

Me: 2 pints of Kronenbourg, please.

Landlord: I suppose you c**ts are only in here coz of them f***ing c**ts on that f***ing telly program, eh?

Me: Well...

Landlord: Well, you can f*** off, then.

Charming place, quite deliberately chosen, I'm sure.

Just been checking the comprehensive 'Radio Times Guide to TV Comedy' by Mark Lewisohn:

The Gnomes of Dulwich - 25 Telegraph Road
Down The 'Gate - Billingsgate Fish Market
Sykes - 28 Sebastopol Terrace, East Acton

In addition, how about:

Terry & Julian - Streatham
Going Straight - Muswell Hill
May to December - Pinner?

Kentish Town - I stand corrected. But a classic, too true.

Hyacinth Bucket was filmed in the East Midlands, using various locations within easy reach of Geoffery Hughe's home in East Northants. He won't travel to work. It may have been imtended to look like suburban London, though.

Glad someone else mentioned Spaced

That is GENIUS! You rule, etc. I want to rip you off completely and do a similar listing for New York-based sitcoms!

"Butterflies"! I used to watch that with my Mum about 300 years ago. Oy...

Cheers! So, I think I can add...

Spaced: Tufnell Park (yes, I checked)
2 Point 4 Children: Ealing
15 Stories High: Kennington
Brush Strokes: Motspur Park
Not In Front Of The Children: Battersea
The Gnomes Of Dulwich: Dulwich
Are You Being Served: Piccadilly (yes, I checked)
Down The Gate: Billingsgate
Terry & Julian: Streatham
Going Straight: Muswell Hill
May to December: Pinner (yes, I checked)
My Hero: Northolt
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace: Romford

How can you leave out the Lenny Henry Show? Coming to you from Brixton, the gateway to the back door.

Gimme Gimme Gimme was filmed at Ealing Studios, opposite my old flat. The scenes filmed on the street were nearby.

and and and.......... a scene from Birds of a Feather was filmed in an old shop unit opposite my flat in Kingston Upon Thames. Thats about 20 miles from Chigwell (well, a long way by road, anyway). I've got the photos of the trio to prove it. Crafty fags between takes. Them, not me.

Since everybody seems to have done them all and I've got here late, I can only offer the following:

- Whoops, Comrade! There Goes The Bread Queue! was filmed in deepest, darkest winter in Cold War era Moscow.
- Whoops, Cardinal! There Goes The Pope! was filmed in Vatican City.
- It Ain't Half Hot Mum was, surprisingly, filmed in Brough, near Hull.
- Red Dwarf was filmed in space. Really. It was.

I might be missing it but "Robin's Nest" was a fictional bistro based in Fulham.

yeah, the cock o the north landlord in bristol, who looks like david badiel is a idiot. rude, obnoxious, could do with being fired!

I remember a sit-com with John Thaw and Bob Hoskins (I think) about two blokes sharing a woman ,set somewhere in London. Another starring Ray Winston as a tailor fallen on hard times, living with his
father in East London.
