I agree, the routemasters are cool, but having recently become a parent, I'm afraid my vote would go to the new buses in terms of being much easier to use. And none of the routemasters I've been on ever "purr"... You're generally lucky if you escape with ony minor whiplash, if it doesn't break down on the way.

I like seeing those old Routemaster buses heading off through the city towards the West End. If I got on one of them I could ride until it dropped me off right outside my wife's office. Not that I do of course - the central line is much quicker.

It sounds like a lovely ride - the tube may be faster, but, for once in a while - what a great way to start the day. This one sounds like a nice tour route.

It's not bad as a tour route - you get the City, St Pauls, Oxford Street, Berkeley Square, Piccadilly and (the back wall of) Buckingham Palace. A number 11 might be even better though.

11 advertises itself as a sightseeing bus.

However, as a Prime number it fits into an altogether different post

Prime Routes? They sound altogether different, and there are rather too many of them for a week, or even a month, or even three months...

Routemasters, yep, chased after a few of them in my days working off Oxford Street. Only missed boarding once. It'd be sad to see them go.

I read in the paper today that Ken now wants to keep Routemasters, given that they're such a potent symbol of London. The power of blogging, eh?
