I've never been on the Number 1 but, working in the city I see the 8 quite a lot and I've travelled almost the whole length of the 125 route quite often so I'll be looking forward to those tomorrow and Friday.

Good series

Canada Water scares me.

Good idea, this. When I move to East Dulwich I'll be switching from tube to bus for my journey to work. Am looking forward to it (at the moment, at least) as 1) it'll save me £350 a year and 2) no longer will I be trapped underground with thousands of sweaty, grumpy bastards.

I remember a few months back, possibly in a post about the decongestion charge, you quoted some statistics about the average actual speed of traffic in London. You also compared this to historical data.

I was wondering if you had ever made a comparison between the speed of crossing London by Underground, versus the speed between the two same destinations by Bus. In this instance Tottenham Court Road to Canada Water. Maybe something to add for the rest of the week?

The tube's Journey Planner suggests that Tottenham Court Road to Canada Water takes just under 20 minutes underground, whereas it took me 35 minutes by bus (in light traffic). Neither of them particularly fast, but not bad for London.

This sounds like it's going to be an excellent week - and I even know a place you're talking about! I've drank in a bar near Centre Point!

I know the number one well, having spent a delightful few months visiting schools in Southwark.

At the time, I found the actual model of bus rather grand and imposing as it headed round the roundabout (the one nearer to the City than to Kennington) at Elephant.
