No dumbing down eh? Are you sure?

The Arsenal result was assured. I'd had my lucky shave and everything.

Nitpick, JohnJo: there's no hydrogen in diamond. It's an allotrope of carbon.

Most hard drive data can be recovered no matter how knackered the drive - at a cost - there are peoples who will do this. Details can be supplied should you be feeling desperate and flush

Yeuch....stick a bit of cellpadding in will you

When you say the hardware is fixed and ready to collect, I take it you mean the whole PC? Which has presumably been fitted with a new hard drive. Just mentioned it in case someone has tried to 'fix' the broken drive - don't even go there !

I would get hold of the broken drive if I were you - that data is still on there (assuming that the media itself didn't actually shatter into pieces). I agree with DrD - you should be able to recover at least some of it.

Simon: Oooops. Shows what I know.

It is all under control.
My control.
Be very afraid

I now have DG's hard drive at The Coven.
I am open to bribes

You might want to get a second opinion on the harddrive. There're companies that specialize in data recovery, but like drD said, it's going to cost you. Good luck.

Language Timothy.
Tabloids don't print words like that (they fill them with appropriate asterisks) even if the Guardian does.

dg says: Sorry

Where's the broadsheet edition though?

And yes, as everyone else says, the data is almost certainly recoverable... it's very difficult to even deliberately "lose" all the data.
As they also say, it might be expensive..... particularly if BW has it!

And this is the first comment from my new computer. Yippee!
But blimey, it's empty in here...

Tablog. What a great word

I always shout at my telly. I dont think he likes me very much, the little sod has gone all silent on me. No my fault, I was sitting on the remote. D'OH!

On the subject of shouting for your team, I've got a season ticket for my team. Me and the lads shout and sing so loud and they still play shit. So what the hell, lets all shout at our TV sets, it cant do any harm.

I've given his hard drive back to him now. I'm a kind Witch like that.

Tee hee, what he doesn't know is that it's my hard drive, replaced last week, and not his original one

The good news is that the data will all come off there fine. The bad news is that it won't be half as interesting as the data that was on his
