Excellent stuff, DG. The Real History of London, and the East End especially, is miles more fascinating than the by-jove-off-with-their-heads touristy stuff usually dished out. Looking forward to the rest of the Bow stuff - and especially the one (which I'm sure you'll do!) about a person with the initials SP...

Annie and the Matchgirls? That's one that passed even me by.

Lovely jubbly.

I used to collect matchbox labels as a kid.

I really don't understand all this 'working class' nonsense - but i suppose i was born with money. Incidentally, those so-called 'apartments' really are nothing even *approaching* modest and, worse still, the place is populated by the most dreadful social wannabies. Still, if people do like to live there, perhaps i might buy a few to let. We shall see.

SP: she's getting a mention most of next week.
Pub with the buns: nearer the end of the month.

A friend of mine used to live in the building with his then boyfriend. They made £150,000 profit on selling their mezzanined-shell. twas nice tho.

erm...bow quarter...absolutely horrible. I lived in a one bedroom apartment for a year on the train side of the big red building, never again. And the people really were twats - annoyingly up themselves...if the place burnt to the ground with all inhabitants the world would be a much better place. Several of the early big brother contestants lived in there and I once saw Llllllaurence Lllllewelllllyn-Bowen, I didn't hurt him.

It's not a place for down to earth people...or australians, we don't belong there.

Are you going to mention Chucky Dicks ?
