I normally go to bed between 11 and 12. The missus watches Sex and the City. We chill out and chat for a bit then go to bed.

Occasionally I join the 2am club and save the free world from a terrorist threat (counterstrike), become a rampaging god (Age of Mythology) or a sword weilding adventurer (Morrowind).

But not every night as I get up at 6.

There is a problem.

MrBW and I usually go to bed at the same time. We even have a double sink in the bathroom so that we don't have to form a queue, so that we can. But,I've just discovered that he ticked a different box to me - like us, some people will have rounded up to the nearest hour, whereas others will have rounded down.

And what about those people who don't have a fixed bedtime?

Or was this all an exercise in proving the old adage about statistics?

Or do I just think too much?

Now you need to ask when people get up in the morning. I have to be up at 6, so any later to bed than 11:30 and I'm useless the day after.

And after that, ask how many hours of sleep people feel they *need* to be at their best.

And after that, how many they can get by on.

I get by on 5 most days. I like to be up for 5:30 - there is something strangely re-assuring about the "UK theme" on Radio 4 at 5:30. Like clockwork every day: you KNOW the you have woken up to a civilised world when you hear the UK theme in the mornings. I only started this habit after September 11 2001. Funny isn't it?

The shipping forecast and inland waterways forecast is imediately after that - followed by Farming Today.

Psychic or what?
