Hipsters?
'Cyclists'?
TfL..?
The poor? The rich? Women? Children? Men? The old? The young? Parents? People without children? Trades unionists? Catholics? Protestants? Mormons? Methodists? Atheists? Liberals? Conservatives?

Things would be so much better without all the "other" people.
And the other people would say exactly the same.

We are the other people.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

then they came for the Others and i did not speak out as i was not Other

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
It's ok though because we've taken back control

This seems to be a subtle 'plea for tolerance' by expounding an opposite point of view. However, complete tolerance of 'other people' doing 'different things' simply leads to a chaos. There have to be rules.

To take an example from today's world, some 'other people' want to enforce sharia law in this country because of their belief in a supernatural being. Some are prepared to murder people at random because of this.

Our society says that you can hold these views but does not want you to act on them or incite others. We define the point where tolerance stops. We also live with the consequences, right down to endless announcements on trains to "Please take all your personal belongings with you".
I know one or two of these other people. They are all right, in fact they are some of my best friends. But they do their different things in their own home mostly. Even when they do them outside, it's all right, because they are some of my best friends.

It's not my best friends that I want to send away. They are all right. After all, they are some of my best friends. No, it's all the other other people, who are not my best friends. They are the ones who ought to stop doing different things. Or perhaps go away, and do different things somewhere else. Or they could do both. But leave my best friends out of it please.

In fact I think my best friends would also like the other other people to stop doing their different things, because it would stop them being blamed for them. In fact I'm sure they would.
“It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.”
― Terry Pratchett, Jingo
According to my DNA makeup, I'm just another Other. Very little different from any other Other. Even a Neanderthaler Other. I am amazingly similar to any other Other. In fact we are relatives. Some of my close relatives who are not very Other are very annoyingly Different. They can't make a good cup of tea. It's Others who make a good cup of tea.
It's those other people who look at me funny which , in turn, makes me feel other that i don't like. And i make a good cup of tea....Then again i've always been other and i look like everyone else. It's a dilly of a pickle and no mistake.
Bah. Can't stand people, full stop. Taken collectively, we're all right bastards.
I have several T-shirts that mark me out as 'other'. Nevertheless, I still read stuff others write...

about why people comment on the internet.
They can do what they like as long as (1) they don't start lecturing me that the way I and we have done it all these years is wrong (2) they don't set up parallel systems of nay sort (Sharia is a good example) to subvert and bypass the legal and established ways we do things (3) they don't irritate my existing peaceful enjoyment of my property with fumes, noise or visual intrusion (4) they or their sponsor bear any full additional costs their presence imposes, including translation fees incurred at any stage of their interaction with the state processes (5) they don't conspire to kill me or my children.

Fair enough?
Sums up perfectly why, The Sun and the Daily Mail are the UK's two biggest selling papers.
I thought for a moment you were talking about the otter people.
@Charles: As long as you don't believe all the old bollocks that Katie Hopkins and Richard Littlecock tell you.
I know how do you think about this attitude, but "the other people" do exist. In Hong Kong, it's the Chinese Communists and their collaborators.
Excellent post, thanks!
It's not the other people who bother me, they are just being the people they have always been, it's my own people who keep telling me that we have much to be guilty for as a people, and now we must say sorry to the other people, every day, in every way, until we, my own people, are no more, though the other people cant understand why these people would do this, they wouldn't.
New, Improved "Them" spray! Guaranteed to remove "Them" quickly and easily with no unsightly mess.

If you liked our "Them" spray, try our new "MuzakOff". The quick setting foam is perfect for permanently disabling in-store music speakers. Especially useful around holiday time. (warning: Use only where legal. Should not be used used without written approval from the speaker-owners and in the company of a security guard. Your liberty may be at risk if directions are not followed)
DG, as a piece of writing this is fantastic and was a really enjoyable read (obviously the subject matter is a bit depressing), but to look on the bright side... Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for writing such an interesting piece!
Sorry for the double post. DG, would you have any issue with this being shared on facebook? I will of course link back to you :)
You mean politicians, right?
...'they' don't like me, but then even 'those' that are like me, don't like me, so it hardly surprising. as the song goes; "Where is the Love?"
As this comment in Section 28 of this list, perhaps I should enquire whether there is some unwritten 'Elephant' rule that we dare not speak about people who are Good As You?
Stewart Lee has an amusing take on this issue, with impressive historical references.

Imagine if everyone wasn't different, people would have to find some another reason to dislike 'others'.
But they are dreadful and beyond toleration.
They talk to people.
On the Tube!!!
I thought at first you must be referring to supporters of 'other' football clubs.

But we are all tribal in every possible way. That's how we are made. What I don't understand is why is it so wrong to point out our differences and even to celebrate them. You don't even get Englishman Irishman and Scotsman jokes any more.

I don't like people who are PC. They think differently.
Could always make it easier to identify the other people by giving them special badges?
With a tiny edit to RayL's second line from his comments above,

To take an example from today's world, some 'other people' want to enforce *Christian morality* in this country because of their belief in a supernatural being. Some are prepared to stop *people in love becoming married/permitting ill women from obtaining an abortion/various moral policing* because of this.
Come to Canada! So many other people that we are now all other people. Everyone is an other people and no one is an other people.
