Couldn't agree more re parts of the village being sort of out of place so close to London. Also the Castle Pub has a garden that really is just like a back garden surrounded on all sides by other people's back gardens.

Also: the Council claim that it's the safest borough in London. Not sure how they substantiate that.

May I nitpick. the accident to which you refer was the first fatality to driver and vehicle of motor vehicles.

In 1896 pedestrian Bridget Driscoll was knocked down and killed by a car in the grounds of the Crystal Palace
