What happened to the 'no standing on the top deck' rule on this new bus route?
A fine piece of journalism.
This made me roar with laughter. How long before the SL buses are rebranded Super Lioness I wonder?!
It's a surprising route too, as buses are generally prohibited in St James's Park. Can't see the Royal Parks being a fan of it being a regular thing.
Superb!
Regarding buses in Royal Parks I remember when the 27A double decker bus ran through Bushey Park to terminate at Hampton Court, the route at the time being Archway (Highgate) to Hampton Court
I believe the passengers came very close to missing the bus and in the end had to pay a penalty fare to be able to board it!
Why not the L25?
Because L10(ness) is obviously better.

Excellent and funny write up.
I was in Westminster with my son on Monday, and we spotted the flags at Downing Street, checked the news and saw the Lionesses were popping round for a drink. We went back later on the off chance that we could catch a glimpse of them, and there were a handful of fans milling about. Figuring we could get a good position at that time and ahead of the crowds, he then insisted that we wait two and half hours for them to turn up - but were rewarded with them all walking in about a metre away from us. What amazed me was that there was barely even a second row of people behind us at the barriers. I reckon around twenty where we were. About the same amount to the north At the risk of giving away a great spot for future coach arrivals at Downing Street, the best position is at the barriers across the pavement on Whitehall, just to the south of the main gates to Downing Street (as this is the closest the police will let you get to the visitor gate). |

Unexpected fact: the bus used for yesterday's journey (X10 ROP) is a converted 2005 diesel, so was subject to a ULEZ fee of £12.50.
It seems that you've had to suspend your 'no people in photos' rule for this special event 🥳
The Watford DC line is swelling with pride also.
Thanks for the first blog involving buses that I actually enjoyed. A touch of genius is evident in this one.
Post of the year. Bravo.

Re ULEZ/LEZ (and CC!):
I wonder when X10 ROP will be pensioned off to Washington DC or similar for tourist use (and how it will be valued for 10% import tariff) When I was last in Washington a decade ago I saw quite a fleet of superannuated UK open tops on tourist duty! Still showing standard UK plates (Ennn aaa IIRC) which made their venerable age obvious, consistent with plate. |
One of the BBC presenters didn't look at their own route map as they said it started in Trafalgar Square.
The 27A has long gone but the RP1 bus runs through Richmond Park, summer service only, and a much smaller bus
Brilliant post - laughed out loud!

Unexpected fact: the bus used for yesterday's journey (X10 ROP) is a converted 2005 diesel, so was not subject to a ULEZ fee but was subject to an LEZ fee of £100 (as far as I can tell). The TfL website is not very forthright as to exact LEZ charges.
Further possibly unexpected fact: It seems likely that X10 ROP is LEZ compliant despite its age. The TfL Checker does not state there is a LEZ charge for it (implying there isn't) although the GOV.UK checker thinks it is non-compliant with other LEZ schemes.
I strongly suspect it has been re-engined since 2005 which would probably have happened anyway regardless of the LEZ and it is registered with TfL as compliant. |

Irrespective, hardly green driving it down from north for a 30 minute crawl. Other buses are available locally. About 4 years ago went to Zeebrugge Belgium in a lovely England branded coach from a London firm who also transported Luton. Big excitement when we arrived at Ibis Zeebrugge. Big disappointment to locals when we stepped off.

Impressive that they got the vinyls printed and applied in time. Or do you think they had another bus saying RUNNERS UP hidden away?
There wouldn't have been a RUNNERS UP bus parade, Peter, so no.
It would be handy to know the original identity of X10ROP, there's nothing showing it with it with a previous operator carrying that registration.
If you know its history you are more likely to find out what engine modifications its had. |
As a long-term reader, that's one of your best posts ever. Thanks.
Very good. I enjoyed this post immensely.
