I've always loved the way the 80 proclaims it's going to "Belmont Prisons", which makes the area sound infinitely more dodgy than it actually is.
@Chz,

What I find amusing is the notice that is or was prominent. "No unauthorised persons beyond this point" etc. etc. Next minute a number 80 bus goes past to serve the bus stop beyond the notice.

404, 407, 434, 466 → Caterham

Only the 407 goes to Caterham. The 404 and the 466 go to Caterham-on-the-Hill which is over a mile away and is a completely separate community. Bit like Harrow and Harrow-on-the-Hill or Amersham and Old Amersham. The 434 goes to neither as it terminates well short of Caterham at what locals will probably forever refer to as "the Ann Summers roundabout" despite all evidence of the company name on the factory disappearing years ago when production ceased.
Thanks DG for an excellent series of posts. It's been a fascinating reminder of the inconsistent nature of London's border and the idiosyncratic bus routes serving it.
@PoP

A fact which I discovered when attempting my own circumnavigation last summer! I thought it would be a reasonably short walk from the end of the 466 to Caterham Station. I ended up riding the 409 to East Grinstead instead...
Is the 166 unique in crossing the border more than once? (three times in fact)
107, 429, 462 and a number of circular services (E16, R5, R10) all manage this
DG is getting closer to me, post by post.
411 from Richmond ? From Kingston, surely !

dg writes: The 411 exits London via the borough of Richmond.
E16 isn't a London bus, is it?
No, the E16 is a commercial operation by Quality Line, but enters the GLA area at Worcester Park
